How to Clean a Glass Stove Top Naturally

2 · Jan 25, 2025 · Ana Stanciu · Leave a Comment

Let’s be real for a moment here: a glass stove top looks modern and elegant in the right environment. It may not be for every kitchen, but the aesthetic factor is one of the biggest selling points for this appliance. Followed closely by my personal favorite: glass stove tops are easy to clean.

So while switching to glass can be a pain (after all, you have to make sure all your pots and pans are compatible with it), it’s a great option if you’re just building out your kitchen. And don’t let the haters tell you glass scratches easily – of course it does, but you’ll be fine if you’re using the right cleaning supplies. Scroll down to learn what you need to get started.

How to Clean a Glass Stove Top

Before you get started cleaning your glass stove top, make sure it’s cooled off. Like with any new cleaning solutions, it’s a good idea to do a patch test on a corner of the stove top before applying it all over.

Glass Stove Top Cleaning Scrub

The gently abrasive power of baking soda mixed with a grease-cutting acidic liquid such as vinegar or lemon juice will ensure easy scrubbing of your glass stove top.

  • Sprinkle baking soda generously over the stove top.
  • Spray white vinegar over the baking soda. Let the mixture fizz for 5-10 minutes.
  • Gently scrub with a microfiber cloth or sponge in circular motions.
  • Wipe clean with a damp cloth and polish with a dry microfiber cloth.

Variation

  • Mix baking soda with enough lemon juice to form a thick paste.
  • Apply the paste to burnt or stained areas and let it sit for 5-10 minutes.
  • Scrub gently, then wipe clean with a damp cloth.

How to Clean Tough Stains from Glass Stove Tops

To remove burnt-on food residue and other tough stains from your glass stove top, try steam cleaning. Wet a microfiber cloth and microwave it for 30 seconds to warm it up. Place the warm cloth over the burnt residue and let it sit for 10-15 minutes to soften the grime, then wipe away the loosened debris.

Alternatively, you can carefully scrape away stubborn spots with a plastic or silicone scraper at an angle. Avoid using metal tools or any other hard scrapers on the glass surface. Follow with the baking soda and vinegar method to clean the surface thoroughly.

Glass Stove Top Cleaning Solution

Not every mess has to be the biggest mess, so for those routine cleanings, use a Castile soap solution on your glass stove top. To use, simply mix a few drops of Castile soap with warm water in a spray bottle. Spray the solution onto the glass surface. Wipe with a damp microfiber cloth, then dry with another clean cloth.

Glass Stove Top Maintenance

Whenever a spill happens, wipe it right away, to avoid tough stains and burnt on messes. Stovetop covers or liners are a good solution for preventing messes on the glass in the first places. Whatever you do, don’t clean your stove top with abrasive scrubbers or harsh chemicals that can damage the glass.
